I had to share a story with you guys, as I have become more aware of chemicals in our products it had led to a conversation with a friend. She was devastated to find that her 9-year-old daughter was starting to show signs of puberty WAY earlier than their family history had shown. We immediately started to talk about things to replace in their home. First after some research she felt it was important for them to remove all signs of soy from their diets, as they were eating more soy based products. Then from there we considered the soaps, lotions and oral care they were using. Sure enough the all-in-one body wash they were using was rated a 9 on the “Think Dirty” app, due to developmental and reproductive activity. Nothing like seeing your kids directly affected to swap out your products. This was a few months ago, and I was just speaking with my friend and the difference in her daughter’s body has been amazing. Whatever it was that was causing it whether the products or food you literal can see the difference!
So this leads me to some interesting facts to leave you all with. Did you know that the average person applies 300 chemicals to their body every single day, 80 of those chemicals before breakfast! Usually these will fall between four things: Soap, Makeup, Shampoo, and hair care. The biggest pollutants people tend to have in the home are DRYER SHEETS, Fabric softener, air fresheners, plug ins and candles. There are roughly 80,000 chemicals used in everyday products! You could literally be poisoning you and your family with these household items.
Here are some commonly used Chemicals to watch out for:
BPA (Biphenol A)– Found in food cans, plastic products such as water bottles amd coatings on store receipts
Phthalates– Found in Shampoo/conditioner, body sprays, hair sprays, perfumes, soap, nail polish, shower curtains, IV Bags, food packaging, PVC vinyl and coatings on time release pharmaceuticals.
Glycol Ethers– Found in solvents, sunscreens, cosmetics, dyes, paints, and degreasers
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (flame retardants)- Found in TVs, Computers, foam, children’s toys and baby pillows
Organophosphate pesticides– Accounts for about half of all pesticides used in the US
Remember this is just a few out of 80,000!
